Jacqueline Fernandez was born in Manama and grew up in a mixed-ethnic, multiracial family. Jacqueline's father Elroy is a Sri Lankan (Catholic Sinhalese) and her mother, Kim is Malaysian. There are two older brothers, and two younger ones. Due to the war that raged in Sri Lanka that the family chose to move to Bahrain. After completing the schooling in Bahrain she was awarded an Scholarship to the University of Sydney to pursue the Media and Communications Degree in Sydney, Australia. Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe 2006 in March, 2006. She also participated in Miss Universe 2006. Her first appearance on television was after she won the Miss Sri Lanka title. The show she hosts, Lanka Business Report, is about business in Sri Lanka. Padukone was born to tennis star Prakash Padukone. She was brought up in Bangalore and was born in Copenhagen. When she was a teenager she was a badminton player in National level competitions. She later resigned her career in the sport in order to be a fashion model. Padukone is of Mangalorean origins and speaks Konkani as her mother tongue. Padukone, a village within the Kundapura Taluk located in Udupi located in Karnataka State, India is where her lineage originates. The father of her, Prakash Padukone, is a retired badminton player of international repute, and her mother is a travel agent.
